The unvalidated, unaudited, bullshitters charter lottery system will undoubtedly trash more dreams.
Only a few days left to put in those choices.
I personally think i'll have more luck with Fridays £52 EuroMillions lottery draw.

I feel let down by the system - no interview after 6 years of studying and now i am being forced into choosing jobs i don't want in places i don't want!

The cronies at newdoctor and MMC have done anything but modernise our medical careers!

Firstly, thank you for applying to the Foundation Programme. (did we have any other option?) I am very aware that things have not run smoothly in this transition year and am sorry if you have found the application process difficult or stressful. (the lame appology)

We are doing everything we can (i.e not replying to individual applicant emails) to ensure that the next stages of the process will be as trouble free as possible. As you know, this year a national system of open competition (lottery?!) was introduced for medical school graduates applying to the Foundation Programmes beginning in August 2006.

As in all previous years, this is intrinsically a competitive process, and inevitably not everyone is able to have the post of their choice. It is also a serious job application process designed to safeguard the safety of patients (and applications written by others and not verified make this far safer!?) as well as to place young doctors in posts that enable them to complete their basic medical training.

The application form you submitted made clear that hospitals which offer employment to foundation doctors may wish to review applicants before employment is offered. This will be a routine part of the process for applicants who score less than 20. You now need to enter the second phase of the process because you were not matched in the first phase. Group 1 UoA applicants: (welcome to the lottery!) you will receive a PIN number from your deanery which will enable you access to the Multi-Deanery Foundation Programme Online Appointment Process website at www.newdoctor.org (which will ultimately crash and not work!)

Group 2 UoA applicants: you can use your current PIN number to access the Multi-Deanery Foundation Programme Online Appointment Process website at www.newdoctor.org.We are aware of the problems posed by electives (no consideration taken in first phase) and finals and are working to get the website open for viewing this week, and open for applications as soon as possible after that, if possible before the end of February.

The details of the closing date and the timing of the match will be announced when the website opens, but the intention is to allow several weeks for applications to be made, to cater for the different patterns of electives and examinations. Applicants will be able to log on to view the programmes that are remaining and make their selections (there are nearly 500 programmes still available). You will be competing for the posts with applicants from both Group 1 and Group 2.The application forms of everyone scoring less than 20 will be reviewed to check for transcription and other errors. (and if you got 21 - i guess this won't be checked - sorry ehh?!)

These applicants will be part of the phase two match but before a firm offer of employment is made they will be invited to a pre-employment assessment organised jointly by employers and Foundation Schools. If you are at all worried or uncertain about this please seek advice from your Medical or Foundation School prior to entering the next phase. (We don't know - don't email us - we won't reply)

If you are not successful in this final round, you will be advised to seek advice from your own Medical School. Please remember that because every year some students do not pass their final examinations, this always creates a number of vacancies which will be available to those people who did not get matched in this appointment process. I anticipate therefore that following the results of finals, there will be enough places to accommodate all suitable applicants. We are seeking legal advice on a couple of issues, (as you start to realise the discontent among the shafted doctors of tomorrow) but I thought it better to set out what we anticipate the further process will be, subject to that advice, rather than to wait longer. Again I am very sorry that things have not run as we had hoped this year. (poor planning gives poor results - plain and simple really?!)

Imperial College will be issuing all candidates with their scores as obliged to under the Data Protection Act 1998. They were perfectly happy to release the scores when they realised that MDAP was not going to.

I continue to be amazed at the problems that MDAP has created. I work at a Central London teaching hospital and there is much disquiet. Consultants were totally against this and some witnessed some potential irregularities in the marking process.

What is amazing is that so many UK students are unplaced, think the numbers are recorded levels if 250 is simply the london total that is a scandal. Cant believe that is a true reflection on the quality of the students coming through medical sch. The system I believe is inherently unfair and unsafe as there is no vigorous cross checking of the facts stated on the application form, how easy would it be to spin some facts or get some professional help to fill in the form. How is MDAP going to check all the facts on all the forms, especially those from EU and NON-EU countries.

If this had been done locally where consultants know students this would not be a problem. If this system continues next year professional fee paying courses will spring up telling people how to complete the form and play the system, in some ways that would be fairer.What I what to know is will there be enough FY1 jobs for all the UK grads, who require these jobs to complete training and get full registration, if a lot have gone to overseas grads?

I would have thought that UK grads would be placed first and any others given to external uk applicants. But this sensible approach which has previously been the rule is not equal opps compliant in the politically correct environment of today, no longer can we nuture are local talent, mentor and help them develop as medical colleagues.

I suggest unplaced students contact the Deanries, MDAP, GMC and med sch and get your voices heard-you have been wronged and to right it your voices need to be heard, enlist the help of consultants. Some of you must have parents or family members who are lawyers get them involved. Use the tools at your disposal Freedom of Info ac and data protection act to get information released on the system and process as well as your own personal score and who scored it-all this must be released by law.

The MDAP process appears to have turned into a farce. Currently in London there appears to be 250 unmatched students, I don't think that there has ever been so many unmatched students in London. A lot of these students are high flyers with 1st, prizes etc. I know there are a lot of unhappy students as well as consultants.
There appears to be a number of issues surrounding MDAP such as (1) Checking the validlity of the info on the form ie were people telling the truth etc. Apparently this has not been done, so how can anyone be sure that people didnt spin their application process particularly if they applied from overseas.

He clearly lays out the problems and defects of the system and there are many.On the London Deanery website there is a powerpoint presentation which was given regarding MDAP-which I think you will find intresting to read. They acknowlege problems with plagirism, errors on database and that system was introduced at speed. It makes intresting reading and raises a no of questions for those without jobs.

If people are unhappy I suggest they:

(1) Demand right of appeal

(2) use the freedom of Information act and the data protection act to get all the information and doucments relating to MDAP released. Any info held on people like their score etc has to be released under data P act and any person can request info under freedom of info act just write to the deanery and MDAP.

(3) Check that the application process has not infringed on any of there human rights which is now inshrined in UK law.

You should as a group arrange meetings with the deaneries and the person in charge of MDAP.

Welcome to the MDAP farce website! A website that will hopefully give us all information - because lets face it - MDAP don't!

I have set this site up in frustration by the fact that the MDAP have seen fit to allocate or not allocate the future doctors of tomorrow in a mish mash application procedure that is shameful.

Applying to Tesco - you'd get an interview!
Applying to a law firm - you'd get an interview!
Applying for a graduate firm - you'd get an interview!

Apply for your first job as a doctor in the NHS and you're treated like you don't exist - no interview - 12 questions to distinguish you from thousands of others - we spend sleepless nights answering them - and someone else will spend 30 secs marking them! 30 seconds marking your future!

You may be reading this and you have been allocated a job. Firstly well done - I wish you congratulations - but i believe this affects you too! You were also forced to apply through this unfair process- but you got lucky. There are a large percentage of your collegues and friends that have been allocated nothing. We will be the 2006 medical graduates - we should stand together -stand up for what we believe in - stand up for our own respect!

I firmly believe that the SYSTEM FOR ALLOCATION IS COMPLETELY FLAWED and UNFAIR!

1) Elective students disadvantaged (try logging onto MDAP when you're in central Africa or in the Himalayas!)

2) Application form was scored by your first ranked deanery - if there is any slight discrepancy between marking forms between different deanaries - then the sytem is flawed.

3) Your unknown score was undoubtedly affected by your overall ability of the english language!

4) International students studying here whom english is not their mother-tongue - disadvantaged.

5) why are we not told our scores? - why are they not re-scored for phase 2 by seperate individuals?

6) If you applied out of your deanery - was your form marked harsher? who knows?

7) The doctors whom we'll be working under won't even have a clue who'll turn up on Aug 2nd - Is that fair to them?

So there are now 3 categories of final year med-students:

Those allocated
Those not allocated with high enough scores to be entered into phase 2
Those not allocated and without high enough scores (bottom 5% scores) - some sort of test of clinical abilities for being entered into phase 2?! who knows - nobody tells us!

So, MDAP don't reply to my emails - do they reply to yours?

Do they give you any informaion?

Are there even enough jobs left across the country for those not successful?
