Hmmmmmm,
What will happen? We'll soon find out.
Good luck everybody!
I am still unplaced ..I am one among the ones with low scores...........!!! now what will happen :-(
i've got 25 - am unplaced as well!
I was allocated yorkshire post though i did not choose it even for clearing. Got a maillater saying my choices were not available so they have placed me there. Have been given the choice to turn it down and go for clearing
i'm really sorry that things haven't worked out for you guys, but keep going - you will get a post that's right for you in the end! Just make sure you pass your finals, and try not to take it too personally - don't let the bastards win!
Imperial College have 11 unlucky, unplaced and unhappy students. We have been given a list of 13 jobs to choose from or we have been told we may go into clearing. All 13 jobs are north of Sheffield. Apparently each medical school will be given a similar list of jobs reserved for their unplaced students. The Dean here has already advised us against waiting for clearing because there is a risk these posts will have to be opened to the whole of the UK and Europe. We may therefore not get them and end up jobless.
Manchester (North Western Deanery) have 8 unlucky, unplaced lottery losers!
hello ..Would anyone be kind enough to post the list of jobs available..ie if u have any!
thanks
The jobs left have been divided up so that you can only apply for the ones allocated to your own medical school. Apparently equal opportunities no longer applies in this farce.
People need to read the Lancet editorial from a few weeks ago-this clearly stated that medical schools are at risk of being sued for breech of their duty of care if they fail to find you jobs.
I can not see how the medical schools can allow to have any unemployed students who have passed finals-that would be an absolute first for the British Medical Education System and would leave them open to all sorts of potential challenges.
Now the system has taken its course ie phase 2 is finished people should demand their right of appeal.
I wonder how many of the phase I applications have been fully verified to date.
I continue to be amazed and shocked at how such system appeared out of nowhere with no evidence to support it or any support from consultants.
The only winners out of this system are those who got into bed with the government to get this system in place. They may earn an honour out of this (cheaper than paying a milion for it I suppose) but they earnt themselves the contempt of a lot of people in the medical profession. Shame on them.
Does anyone know anymore about the leagl side of this. Im unplaced and have a "welfare meeting" with one of our sub-deans. They (RF&UCL) have been totally unhelpful in this whole process and id like to take along some ammunition!!
what is wrong with some people, if you get an offer take it,
I'll let you all know what will happen next,
after phase 2, each deanery will have a list of its unplaced finalsits and they will try & cram them to any position, even if they have to make up a new one.
so anyones best chance of employment is at the current moment
if you are waiting for clearing then you better know that IT will be open to everyone as it will be advertised in BMJ & others
The above comment is right that this is the last chance to receive a guaranteed job. I disagree however that this means we should all just gratefully accept the jobs offered to us. The way in which each university is being given a small selection of jobs to offer their students is clearly breaking equal opportunities law since we are not being given access to all the available jobs.
I was reliably told by our dean that there will be job creation if required, at great expense. This is because the GMC rules state that graduates must be provided with a position. However, this will only occur if there are no jobs left.
Someone asked about the legal ammuno to take to a welfare meeting-I would refer them to the Editorial in the Lancet on the 1st April 2006 (Volume 367, Number 9516).
Everyone should read this editorial which was called 'UK medical schools: undervalued and undermined'
This editorial was very powerful and was extremely critical of the MDAP and of the political interference by the Dept of Health. It refered to Times article and on line petition.
The editorial raised the issue of the statutory responsibilities of the medical school to students-THIS WOULD SEEM TO OPEN A POTENTIAL AVENUE FOR LEGAL ACTION ON THE GROUNDS THAT MED SCHS DID NOT DISCHARGE THEIR DUTY OF CARE.
The Lancet QUOTE
'Medical schools have a statutory responsibility for the primary medical qualification (medical degree), the pre-registration training year (F1), and full and final registration at the end of F1. By not discharging those responsibilities—eg, by ceding control of the fate of F1 trainees to postgraduate deans—medical schools will be in breach of their legal duties, putting themselves at risk of legal challenge from students who feel that their expectations are not being met.'
To those without jobs I would say hold your nerve, get your head down and focus on finals because some of the weaker candidates who got good jobs will fail! You can then get a decent job in your area.
I read the Lancet article, but what i would like to know is if anyone has/knows of the actual act of law and its wording and how far this legal responsibilty goes. If anyone knows where i could obtain a copy of this act pls post it here. By rejecting the crap jobs they may offer me am i rejecting their attempts to discharge that duty of care?
I have printed a copy of the Lancet article to show the sub dean though, lets see what she thinks!!
I have spoken to a lawyer friend of mine and he has advised me that students should phone the Law Society and ask for names of law firms that deal with these issues and that do Pro Bono work ie for free. If you then contact them, explain your situation they will advise you for free, make sure you explain situation, Times headline etc. If it is a high profile case they are more likely to help out for free.
just read on the MMC website that if anyone wishes to appeal if they feel their application was not handled properly it must be submitted within 15 days of the 21st april

I was allocated a job in round 2 only to be told 3 weeks later that it had already been filled in round 1 and was placed on the system in error, I am back to square 1 and have to wait for finals results which I feel is a big gamble. Does anyone know how many students in the country don't have jobs at the moment? There are 4 in the North West...
60 left in London
- 20 at RUMS
- 18 at St George's
- 11 at Imperial
- 6 at GKT
- 5 at Barts and London
No surprises there then that out of the 93 left in the country 60 of them are in the capital
Sue the bastards!!!!
"I was allocated a job in round 2 only to be told 3 weeks later that it had already been filled in round 1 and was placed on the system in error"
